Kuwait Oil Company

Project type: Interactive and experiential visitor centre

What we did: Design lead of the 3d design team

Date: 2008-09

Client: Event Communications

Whilst working at Event Communications, Dan led a 3d team to detail design a multi-level visitor attraction dedicated to the story of oil in Kuwait: from its formation millions of years ago, to its discovery, extraction, refining and eventual use in everyday products.

The attraction also shows what happened during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, with visitors stepping into a fire theatre environment to experience the heat and terror for themselves, using real fire effects. Dan designed the Fire Theatre from the ground up, working out how the real and faux flame, nitrogen cannon and mechanical screen effects could work inside an auditorium.

Dan oversaw all galleries and worked on the interface with the architects and M&E engineers. He also designed two of the seven galleries from scheme to production design, which included a Pepper’s Ghost refinery show, a ship interactive and a space with animated model drilling bits.
